A boss who is fond of platitudes is one thing. It is quite another if they insist you believe in them as fervently as they do. Unless you can feign sincere belief (easier said than done obviously), such a boss will almost certainly insist you go on some course, the principal (though not explicit) aim of which will be to inculcate in you the requisite beliefs. If you are lucky, you will end up parroting platitudes without compunction and may even one day get promoted. On the other hand, your psyche may splinter into many fragments, fragments that you will almost certainly spend the rest of your life trying to piece back together again.

Therefore: when you interview for a job, be sure to ascertain where your potential future boss stands on platitudes. Basically you need to know if they spout or repudiate them.

The propensity for people to knowingly do the wrong thing whilst pretending to themselves they are doing the precise opposite is a stinging rebuke to all those who adhere to a moral code. Why some flout and others follow rules is one of the great mysteries of the cosmos, right up there with the hard problem of consciousness and why there is something rather than nothing.
